Two new Duke Scramblers – Talk of additions to Ducati’s Scrambler range has been rife over the last year, and the speculation is set to come to fruition for 2017 with two new versions added to the line-up.
Documents recently filed with the California Air Research Board (CARB) reveal that as well as the basic Scrambler, there will be separate Scrambler DS and Scrambler CR variants in the new line-up.
The initials suggest that the DS, standing perhaps for dual-sport, is the recently spied enduro version (AMCN Vol 66 No 05). While the CR has yet to break cover, surely the letters must stand for ‘Café Racer’. Plenty of brands already offer bolt-on bits to make café racers from Ducati’s Scrambler (pictured), so it makes sense to add its own for an in-house transformation.
The CARB documents also reveal that all versions of the bike employ the 803cc air-cooled engine. Its emissions are unchanged, suggesting that it’s in the same state of tune as the current version.
The DS is some 10kg heavier than the stocker or the CR, which weighs the same as the base bike. A separate document covers the 399cc Sixty2 model and doesn’t show DS or CR versions of that bike being added to the line-up.
There’s no sign of the much rumoured 1100cc Scrambler.
