In possibly the most mind-blowing meeting of all time in Aussie motorcycle competition, Brian Hindle, a devoted Salvation Army officer of Sydney, became one of the very few men in the world to have beaten many-times world champion Giacomo Agostini on level terms when he led him home by 60 yards or so in a 12-lap 350cc race at Oran Park before 12,000 spectators. Starting side by side, both riders threw everything into it around the tight twisty 1.2-mile track.
