Australian commuters will have more choice when it comes to zero-emission urban transport when a trio of Segway scooters start rolling out in Australian dealerships this month.
At the top of the three-tiered model range is the $8990 (ride away) E300SE, whose 10kW motor and dual removable batteries produce a top-speed capability of 105km/h and a claimed range of 130km.
According to Segway, range is calculated at a constant speed of 45km/h with a 75kg rider and in ambient temperatures of 25ºC, so a reduced range figure is likely to be more realistic, especially since Segway claims it can accelerate from 0-50km/h in less than three seconds. However the E300S does have the capacity to support a third battery to increase range by a further 50 percent.

In terms of electronic rider aids, the E300SE boasts dual-channel ABS and electronic-assisted – or adjustable regenerative braking – as well as cruise control, assist pushing, one-touch reverse and hill-hold control for when it’s parked on a slope. Owners also have the ability to activate and lock the scooter via an app, access riding data and even track the bike’s movements.

Next down the line is the E125S, whose 3.5kW motor reaches a maximum speed of 45km/h, meaning the claimed range of 108km from its dual batteries should be closer to the mark. At $6990 (ride away), the E125S is priced in the middle of the range-topping E300SE and the E110S entry point. The $4990 (ride away) E110S gets a 1.8kW motor with a single battery and is good for 45km/h with a range of 57km. Both the E125S and the E110S benefit from adjustable regenerative braking as well as the same connectivity features as the E300SE accessible via the Segway-Ninebot app.

The range is currently available to test ride at 14 dealerships spread across New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia and the ACT. See below:
