cowhide or the increasingly popular kangaroo leather, then there’s the man-made textiles such as ballistic nylons or Kevlar blends.
They all have their place in today’s world of ATGATT and offer different levels of protection for each rider’s needs. But sometimes you don’t want to have to gear up and look like some repli-racer just to head down to the road for a morning coffee with friends.Fortunately Roadskin has come to the market with what it’s calling abrasion resistant leisurewear like this kevlar-lined water resistant hoody which has just lobbed at Gassit HQ.
On first inspection I was surprised at how heavy duty it is, forget about any hoody you’ve ever worn this has been made with a purpose in mind. It has a 300gsm cotton outer layer with a full inner lining of 320gsm military grade Para-aramid which is made from 100% DuPont Kevlar. It is claiming a strength-to-weight ratio five times stronger than steel (how do we test that?) and its degradation point starts from 500 °C, it says.
It also has built in pockets for CE approved back and elbow armour which are included. Roadskin claim it will stay water resistant for up to 20 washes but also recommend washing in cold water and using an in-wash water-proofing liquid to help. As far as first impressions go I think it’s a good product which fills a gap in the world of protective clothing for motorcyclists and I look forward to see how its water-resistance holds up over the coming winter months. Stay tuned to see how it holds up.
