Italian Andrea Iannone has claimed his second career MotoGP pole position sounding a warning shot to his competitors this weekend’s Austrian MotoGP could see the win Ducati fans have waited many years for.
Iannone is the first Italian rider to qualify on pole for a premier-class grand prix in Austria since Giacomo Agostini back in 1975 at the Salzburgring.
Making it an all-Italian front row is Valentino Rossi, who will start from second place on the grid, with Iannone’s Ducati teammate Andrea Dovizioso rounding out the front row.
The second row is made up of Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo, Honda’s Marc Marquez and Suzuki’s Maverick Viñales.
Aussie Jack Miller will start tonight’s race from 20th on the grid.
