Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) improved on the previous best WorldSSP pace at the all-new Villicum circuit in Argentina in Superpole 2, ending a feisty battle for supremacy with a lap of 1’403.026 that was fully 0.302 seconds better then the next rider. It was his fifth Superpole ‘win’ this season.
A 1-2 for the GRT Yamaha team saw Federico Caricasulo second fastest, with current points leader Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing Yamaha) third.
Jules Cluzel (NRT Yamaha) could not quite match the top three and finished the first rider on row two for the 19-lap race on Sunday. Cluzel’s team-mate Thomas Gradinger (NRT Yamaha) was fifth, with all the top five inside 0.557 seconds.
Randy Krummenacher (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha) was almost a second adrift of the leading riders as the track continues to bed in, ending up sixth.
Corentin Perolari (Yamaha GMT94) was seventh, and the top Honda rider so far is Kyle Smith (CIA Landlord Insurance Honda), eighth. Another Honda rider, Hannes Soomer from the Racedays Honda team, ninth.
Loris Cresson (Kallio Racing Yamaha) was 10th, while SP2 faller Raffaele De Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse by Vamag) ended up 11th. The last rider home in Superpole 2 was Briton Luke Stapleford (Profile Racing Yamaha).
The top Kawasaki rider was Hector Barbera (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) in 14th place after Superpole 1.
The inaugural Villicum WorldSSP race will take place at 14.30 local time on Sunday 14th October.
