Change the Prime Minister, change my helmet. That’s my motto, so I’ve been getting through a few helmets lately. After being knocked over by the impressive quality and comfort of the Kabuto Aeroblade 5 helmet, which retails for under $500 ($479.95), I decided to step up to the more track-orientated Kabuto RT-33 SP1 helmet.
One advantage the RT-33 has over the Aeroblade 5 is the ability to fit various size Coolmax liners for a snugger fit. This has allowed me to match an extra-large size shell with a large-size liner.
The RT-33 is designed and manufactured in Kabuto’s Japanese factory, and the quality is evident in its construction. As well as being Pinlock ready (and a Pinlock anti-fog liner is included), the Max Vision visors also feature the quick-change system which makes swapping between my clear and tinted visors a quick and swear-free experience.
The wind-tunnel designed Wake Stabilizer technology is said to make the helmet as stable at 250km/h on the track, as it is at 50km/h on the road – time will tell.
For now, I’m just enjoying the comfort level of the helmet and the cool-looking graphics which feature the Kabuto logo. Just as long as there’s not another leadership spill in the next fortnight.
