The year 2018 marks the 40th Anniversary of Australia’s biggest Enduro and the only 4 Day Enduro in the world and it’s going to be a huge event.

The brainchild of John Hall, (the Father of Aussie Enduro), the Australian Four Day Enduro was first called the Cessnock 4 Day Interstate Challenge and the thinking behind it was to run an event along ISDE rules to prepare Aussie riders for the rigours of riding against the world’s best. The 4 Day soon gained a regular following and eventually moved from its Cessnock birthplace to be run all over Australia and even one year in New Zealand.

For its 40th birthday the Yamaha A4DE returns to Cessnock and as well as the normal Enduro classes there will be Vinduro classes for older bikes and riders with modified times and a special class for those that rode the inaugural Four Day in 1978.

Fittingly enough that class will be called the “John Hall 78’ers” and they will feature in a “demonstration event” at the Day Four final moto. They do not have to ride the full 4 Day event to ride in the “demonstration”. A first place trophy will also be awarded to the highest placed 1978 returning rider (ie. Rider had to have ridden the original A4DE in 1978).

If you know any of the originals pass the news on, let’s get as many as we can to help celebrate. They don’t have to ride, but it would be a great tribute to John Halls’ memory if they could attend.
