We already know that the new Street Triple will get a capacity hike to somewhere near 800cc, and that the range will be expanded to four models. A Street Triple RT sports tourer and a high-end, Ohlins-and-Brembo-kitted Street Triple RS will join the base model and the ‘R’ version in the range. Both the new versions will get 125bhp (93kW) motors, the Street Triple R will have 115bhp (86kW) and the base bike 110bhp (82kW). Here’s what we can spot in the new spy shots:
1: A new swingarm.
The swingarm appears to be much more heavily reinforced than the existing Street Triple’s, with a significant upper brace arching over the top. The fact it’s double-sided shows that this prototype isn’t a Speed Triple.
2: It’s still got a low-mounted exhaust
Euro4 emissions rules and new European noise regs are making bikes’ exhausts larger – but it seems Triumph has still managed to squeeze the pipe under the Street Triple’s engine, as there’s no sign of an under-seat or side-mounted silencer.
3: The styling will follow the Speed Triple
It looks like the largely plastic side panels of the Street Triple are gaining metal trims over the ends of the radiator. That makes sense as the larger Speed Triple gained just such trim pieces as part of its facelift for this year.
4: The mirrors are moving to the bar-ends
Another change that the Speed Triple has already been given is the addition of mirrors mounted on the ends of the bars. It looks like the Street Triple gets the same mirrors. It’s a logical move to share components between the two models.
5: Radial brakes
It looks like this prototype is using radial front brake calipers. According to leaked details of the new Street Triple range, the base model will still have axial Nissins, the ‘R’ and ‘RT’ will have radial Nissins and the ‘RS’ will use radial Monobloc Brembos. The RT has a screen, so this prototype must be an ‘R’ or ‘RS’ version.
