Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) waited until the fifth to last lap to overhaul long time leader Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) to take a double win at Misano, extending his championship lead to 66 points over his team-mate.
The final podium place went to consistently fast Panigale rider Davide Giugliano (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) who was the top Ducati runner on show.
Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) fell early in the race and his bike collected Michael van der Mark (Honda World Superbike Team). The Honda rider got going again but Davies had to come into the pits to retire.
Xavi Fores (Barni Racing Team Ducati) put his privateer Ducati into fourth place, equalling his best ever previous finish in Superbike.
Lorenzo Savadori (IodaRacing Team Aprilia) and Nicky Hayden (Honda World Superbike Team) were close together in fifth and sixth places respectively, with Jordi Torres (Althea BMW Racing Team) also in their warring group, in seventh.
Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) was eighth after running close to the front early on, before losing places and then dropping pace at the end. His new part-time team-mate Niccolo Canepa (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) placed ninth.
Van der Mark’s recovery after his luckless collision with Davies got him a tenth place finish, one position higher than Anthony West (Pedercini Racing Kawasaki).
Josh Brookes (Milwaukee BMW) finished 14th but another former BSB champion, Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) was forced to retire with a technical issue.
The next round is at Laguna Seca, in the USA, with racedays on 9th and 10th of July.
