It is believed that Ant West will take over the riding duties of the Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2 bike at this weekend’s Aussie MotoGP after the team’s regular rider Remy Gardner was detained by authorities over an incident which also involved his father, 1987 500cc world champion Wayne Gardner.
West took to social media confirming that he’s on route to Phillip Island from Spain to compete in this weekend’s MotoGP event. “There must be a race on down this part of the world. When one door closes… another door will open. In this case another sweet bike to ride.” Said the 35-year old, who has been racing in numerous world championship events this season. West made a point of thanking his Aussie sponsor SWEDA “built from earth” who are supporting his campaign to ride Remy Gardner’s Kalex Moto2 machine in the wake of post-race difficulties in Japan for the 18 year old.
Details are yet to be confirmed however sources indicate that Remy and father Wayne have both been detained in Japan following an incident which occurred at the MotoGP event at the Motegi circuit last weekend. It has been reported that Wayne was involved in an altercation with three other men following a light collision between their vehicles. Wayne denies any wrongdoing. Remy went on to secure a 19th place in the race but was questioned by authorities following the event. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that they were providing consular assistance to “two Australian men arrested in Japan”.
