Mike Jones has been rewarded for his impressive MotoGP debut performance at yesterday’s Japanese Motorcycle Grand Prix with news he has been retained by the Avintia Ducati team for his home Grand Prix at Phillip Island this weekend.
Jones was announced as a last-minute replacement for Hector Barbera in the Avantia team and quickly came to terms with riding a Grand Prix. The 22-year-old Brisbane local qualifying ahead of factory Honda stand-in Hiroshi Aoyama and put in a mature effort to finish the race.
Jones finished the race in 18th behind teammate Baz and Ducati factory team replacement rider.
