Supermoto is back in a fun and affordable package called the 2023 Kawasaki KLX230SM.
Based on the KLX230 S, the learner-approved KLX230SM adds another dimension to the Kawasaki line-up with its supermoto stance and styling attributes.
Supermoto ingredients
The urban enjoyment factor is off the scale with its 17-inch wheels, 37mm upside-down fork, road-orientated suspension settings and a large 300mm semi-floating petal disc at the front gripped by a twin-piston caliper.
The road-focussed suspension settings provide 204mm travel at the front and 168mm at the rear. Combined with the 845mm seat height, a low 135kg wet weight and closely spaced ratios in the six-speed gearbox, the 2023 KLX230SM is the perfect commuting companion.
A compact LED headlight is the centrepiece of the KLX230SM front-end and fender, complemented with the blacked-out engine, frame, swingarm and handlebar..
The engine is the same as found in the KLX230 range: a 233cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, four-stroke single, rated at 14kW/19.8Nm, but with ECU updates including a revised fuel map to offer improved throttle response in cold temperatures.
Urban accessories
Accessories include a skid plate, frame covers, hand covers, fat-type handlebar, gold alumite rims (for the Lime Green), helmet lock and a rear carrier.
Recommended retail prices for the 2023 KLX230SM are $7,594 for the Ebony and $7,494 for the Lime Green version (plus on-road costs).
