1: Kawasaki Ninja 300
While the dominant Ninja 300 was steadfast at the top of the heap after the third quarter of 2015, it had experienced a 32 percent decline in sales, selling 1460 units in the first nine months of 2015 compared to 2146 in the same period of 2014.
2: Harley-Davidson Street 500
The LAMS-approved bike built to bolster Harley-Davidson’s reach and sales exceeded even the American brand’s expectations in doing so. In the first nine months of 2015, 1132 people purchased the Street 500.
3: Harley-Davidson Softail Breakout
Popular since its release, the 2015 sales year is no different for the Breakout, which is growing in popularity according to official figures. In 2014, Harley moved 893 brand-new Breakouts in the nine months to September. This year H-D enjoyed almost 22 percent increase moving 1089 in the same period.
4: Honda CRF50F
The four-stroke Honda is the first of three 50cc fun bikes to make the 2015 top-10 list selling 1076 units in the first nine months. That represents a decline of over 25 percent on its 2014 figure of 1443.
5: Yamaha MT-07
Yamaha’s LAMS-approved MT-07 was met with high acclaim, many giving it higher praise than the firm’s triple-cylinder MT-09. Released late in 2014, 1052 Australians purchased new MT-07s this year compared to just 181 in its short window the year before.
6: Yamaha TTR50
The second of the 50cc bikes, Yamaha’s little four stroke experienced a smaller decline than its Honda rival over the previous year. In the first nine months of 2015, Yamaha moved 1023 TTR50s compared to 1078 in the same period of 2014.
7: Yamaha PW50
Despite selling the least of the three 50cc contenders, the trusty little two-stroke PW50 was the star, enjoying a considerable 16.2 increase over the same period of 2015. Yamaha sold 918 units in the first three quarters of 2015 compared to just 790 in the same previous year.
8: Honda CBR500R
The second LAMS-approved sportsbike in the top 10 comes in the form of Honda’s 500cc parallel-twin CBR500R. While still popular, it suffered a whopping 45.4 percent decline over the year previous selling 821 units this year compared to 1503 in the same period last year.
9: Yamaha WR450F
It’s the bike that has been in the top-10 best sellers list for as long as we can remember, Yamaha’s WR450F sold 805 units during the first three quarters of 2015, compared to 1224 in the same period.
10: Honda CRF450R
Hot on the heels of the Yamaha, Honda’s CRF450R came in as the 10th most popular powered two wheeler of 2015. Though aimed at different segments of the off-road market, the Honda sold just 48 units less than the Yamaha, which represented a considerable 55.8 percent increase over 2014 when just 486 new units changed hands.
