Technology from Honda’s all-new Gold Wing is being transferred to a replacement Valkyrie, which is already being tested.
These mock-up images, from Japanese magazine AutoBy, are based on information from insiders who have seen the prototypes. They reveal that the next-generation Valkyrie will adopt the frame and six-cylinder engine from the 2018 Gold Wing, combining them with cruiser-style design cues and a headlight and exhaust system inspired by the limited-production 2004 Honda Rune.
We’re told much of the design focus is on the front suspension, with prototypes testing conventional forks as well as the latest Gold Wing’s wishbone-style set-up.
With the standard 2018-spec 1833cc flat-six engine, the new bike will offer 93kW at 5500rpm and a thumping 170Nm of torque at just 4500rpm.
We can expect the same transmission options of a conventional six-speed or a semi-auto, dual-clutch seven-speed. Both transmissions include a reverse.
This is a crucial model for Honda, which now has just one cruiser, the entry-level CMX500 Rebel, able to be sold in the Euro4-compliant market.
