Further iterations of the concept have been getting ever closer to production spec, up to last year’s Tokyo show where a near-final version appeared.
The new Monkey grows to 125cc and uses the Grom as its basis. With an injected, air-cooled 125cc single, the bike has grown physically too.
Dubbed the Z125 MA, it will make 6.9kW, and weigh 107kg, 2kg heavier than the Grom.
With its chunky tyres, glossy fuel tank and big padded seat, the Monkey is unmistakable.
It has a historical 3D Old Wing design Honda logo, chromed steel high-level front and rear mudguards with chrome exhaust shield, circular mirrors and high-rise handlebars
The single channel ABS breaking system operates with an IMU to mitigate rear ‘lift’ under strong braking and the Monkey features premium USD forks and twin rear shocks.
Oval in cross-section, the swingarm echoes the circular design theme that runs through the bike.
The Monkey hits Australian streets in July and will be available from $5,999 Ride Away.
It will be available in Banana Yellow, Pearl Nebula Red, Pearl Glittering Blue and Pearl Shinning Black.
