GSX-R and more recently GSX-S brands represent the pinnacle of Suzuki’s race replica and street bike model ranges. In order for a model to carry these iconic trademarks, they must be very lightweight, be a top-performer in its class and represent fantastic value for money to customers.
A totally new, advanced liquid-cooled, four-valve, DOHC, 124.4cc powerplant. An engine developed utilising over three decades of GSX-R know-how to achieve superb acceleration across the entire rev range. Boasting 11kW (15hp) @ 10,000rpm with 11.5Nm of torque @ 8,000rpm the little engine sure punches above its weight.
The modern chassis design provides confidence-inspiring stability on the freeway, nimble handling in corners, and easy manoeuvrability through city traffic. The advanced twin-spar frame combines optimal torsional rigidity with light weight and thanks to its clever design is approximately 3kg lighter than competitor models.
Both models feature a confidence inspiring 785mm seat height however the seat shape and riding triangle does differ between the two models with the GSX-S125 employing a more upright riding position with the handlebar position 100mm higher than the GSX-R125.
Both models are equipped with the latest Bosch 10 base-unit Anti-lock Brake System (ABS); the lightest and most compact two-channel ABS system on the market, weighing only 0.59kg and are the only ABS-equipped models in their class.
The large diameter 290mm front petal disc matched to a dual-piston calliper with a 187mm petal disc at the rear deliver excellent braking performance, mounted on lightweight 10-spoke 17 inch wheels shod with grippy Dunlop tyres.
A feature unique to the GSX-R125 is a convenient key-less ignition system, allowing the rider to start the engine as long as the compact key fob is close enough to the motorcycle. Which means the rider does not have to fumble to retrieve the remote from their pocket or backpack.
The GSX-S125 features a convenient easy start ignition system with a shutter-key lock system. The key fob carries a unique, random magnetic code pattern which opens the shutter when the fob is lined up and pushed into a receiver on the ignition lock cover, and the ignition key can then be inserted into the lock and the ignition turned on. Once the key is inserted into the shutter-key ignition lock and turned to the running position, the system automatically starts the engine with one touch of a button mounted on the handlebar.
The security shutter can be easily closed by pushing the lever once the ignition has been turned off and the key removed.
Both models sport a full LCD instrument panel set in a modern dashboard, framed by
Indicator, neutral, hi-beam, coolant temperature, malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), ABS, and programmable engine-RPM indicator lights. The bright LCD panel includes a segmented-bar tachometer across the top, a digital speedometer, a gear position indicator, a digital clock, a digital odometer with dual trip meters, an average fuel consumption meter, a fuel gauge and an oil change timing indicator making it easy for owners to determine when it’s time for maintenance.
