After three years of riding Honda machinery in MotoGP, Tuesday at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia was a big one for Jack Miller.
The Townsville tearaway, days after a third top-10 finish in succession to end his best MotoGP season yet for the Estrella Galicia Marc VDSteam, waved his old garage goodbye as he reported for work for the first time at Octo Pramac Racing, who he’ll ride the Ducati Desmosedici GP 17 for next year.
The traditional post-Valencia test is always the first time we see familiar faces in new places, and Jack got down to business quickly, completing 57 laps with a best time of 1min 30.635secs, better than the fastest lap of last Sunday’s Grand Prix set by Yamaha’s Johann Zarco, and fast enough for fifth overall behind only Maverick Vinales, Zarco, reigning world champion Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi. Starts don’t get much better …
“It was a very good day,” Jack beamed afterwards. “It’s always a special emotion to start a new adventure, (and) the sensations are extremely positive.”
