Imola International Circuit was home to round three of the World Superbike 1000STK championship on the weekend and what an eventful round of racing it was. All 4 classes had at least 1 red flag on Sunday and the racing was nothing but carnage.

Australian rider Glenn Scott, managed to battle through the field and fallen riders to take home his first 1000STK championship point and put himself on the map with a 15th placing finish.

Scott and the team had the bike in the best shape it has been in, since testing at the start of the year, so the weekend was looking positive. Fridays practice sessions got off to a great start with Glenn securing a 1.54.7, only 4 seconds off the front first up. This helped with his confidence and the progression of the bike. Improvements then came in leaps and bounds for FP2 and FP3, where Scott improved over a second for each session, finishing FP3 with a 1.52.3 and putting him 23rd. Qualifying was a difficult session for Scott and the Agro-On Benjan Team, but they manage to bring home 26th grid position with a time of 1.52.5, only 3.4 seconds off pole position.

“Imola is such a special circuit, with passionate and crazy fans and I really enjoy riding there. It’s also extremely difficult and technical, but I managed to hold my own and secure my best qualifying grid position for the season, which I was very happy with”.

Sunday’s race was nothing but crazy, with 10 riders crashing out of the race and 3 restarts. Scott was able to battle with the remaining riders to bring home a well earnt 15th in the restarted 9 lap dash. Scott is now on the championship points board after earning 1 point for his determinative finish.

“My race was really positive, I felt really comfortable and confident, I got a great start and was aggressive into turn 1 for the first time this season, taking a few positons which cemented my run for the whole race. I learnt a lot throughout the race and I’m so wrapped to bring it home in P15 with my first championship point of the season. Myself and my team deserved It after the hard work we put in”.

“Every race we’re improving, but this weekend we really made a positive step forward with both the bike and myself and I feel we are in a really good place to succeed for the remainder of the season. My confidence is high and I can’t wait for round 4 at Donington Park in just two weeks’ time to continue this great result”.

 Round 4 of the 1000STK Championship continues at Donington Park from 26-28th May.
