American Patrick Jacobsen (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) secured his first pole position start in his first MV Agusta WorldSSP race meeting with a 1’33.128 lap that put him 0.102 seconds ahead of second placed qualifier Jules Cluzel (CIA Landlord Insurance Honda).
New Yamaha signing Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) was third on the grid and the last front row starter.
In a great improvement from his testing and Friday qualifying form, lone Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team rider Kyle Ryde was fourth. Overcoming pain and stiffness from his big Friday crash Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) placed fifth in Superpole, with Alex Baldolini (Race Department ATK#25 MV Agusta) sixth on his privateer triple.
Gino Rea (Team GO ELEVEN Kawasaki) slotted into seventh place on the grid for what will now be a 15-lap race on Sunday, not the planned 18 – due to potential tyre wear issues at the heavily left-handed PI circuit.
Roberto Rolfo (Team Factory Vamag MV Agusta) and Kyle Smith (GEMAR Team Lorini Honda) completed the front three rows of riders.
Hikari Okubo (CIA Landlord Insurance Honda) was tenth and the first Triumph on the grid was ridden by Luke Stapleford (Profile Racing Triumph) in 11th place.
